Joshua Gatchalian

I can honestly say that Joshua is one of the students who makes me really proud. I taught him to play the first note in 2015 and was continuing with him until his family moved out of London in Summer 2021.

It was always a pleasure to work with him - his 1 hour a day practice topped up with natural talent and aptitude was always delivering amazing results. He passed 7 grades with me - all with Distinction! We started working towards the Grade 8 when he moved and he finished it by himself. We keep in touch and I was extremely pleased to hear he was selected for scholarship with Pianoman by Richard Meyrick and now in full time education with that highly reputable school.

Joshua and his parents sent me a few videos of him performing which they kindly allowed me to publish on my website.

Grade 5 pieces 2019

2019. Joshua as usually succeeds at his exams - over the years most are passed with Distinction - but he wants to stop learning piano! Such a shock!

After some time though, when I saw him again I was so relieved that he changed his decision! It took a lot of convincing and patience from his parents (and some from myself) but I am really glad he is back!

He is one of those students that have great potential and if not giving up,  can achieve great results. Two Grade 7 pieces clearly demonstrate that!

Joshua - July 2018 - Grade 4

Joshua Grade 4 pieces. Well done - passed with distinction! (I should add as always).

He is the only student I have that has nothing but Distinction for all his 4 practice and 3 theory exams! Keep up a good work!

Joshua's talent allows him to achieve great results with less work input than it would take from others. His 1 hour-a-day-must deserves the prise, but, what is even more important delivers excellent results!

However, Joshua is a bit shy and never let me film him before. These are the first two pieces he played for my website. Thank you very much my dear!

December 2015

This is Joshua.
Grade 1 passed with Distinction! Hurray! Big achievement! Well done!
I could not wish myself a better student - it is a pleasure to work with Joshua, the only thing I would like him to improve on is his communication. It is really hard to read his emotions and I wish he could explain them a little bit better. However, it is the only and a very small thing compared to that Joshua is a very dutiful boy, he does his homework well, works diligently and his talent helps him to achieve his milestones sooner.
Well done on his first exam - well deserved distinction!
