Hello!

Welcome to my website!

My name is Nataliya Slyusarchuk, I am a private piano tutor covering Mill Hill and surrounding areas. I have recently relocated from Walthamstow where I've been teaching for the last 12 years. To see my experience and qualifications please navigate to Qualification tab. There also a few videos and photos I published in my Gallery which demonstrate some results of my work.

My music lessons include teaching piano, sightreading and music theory (according to the student’s level), as well as developing the aural skills.

My youngest students are 6 years old and the eldest are 75 years young. I don't take children younger than 6 as they require different approach. Of course there is no upper age.

During the first lesson* I assess students individually and pick an appropriate curriculum. The individual program very much depends on the goal every student is aiming at. Some are simply learning for fun and personal development. Others are studying in a more serious manner and take ABRSM exams. Whatever your reason is, you will only benefit from taking part. Science findings suggest that learning to play an instrument, such as piano, affects and even makes changes to the brain, especially in the young age. Even if you study early on and then stop, you benefit. Several research studies show that playing piano engages the most of our brain, there is no other activity that exercises as many parts of it. And no wonder that the learning takes a lot of hard work and persistence but at the same time it is a lot of fun and such a pleasure!

I take passion in my job and aim at high results. Being a demanding teacher I believe that punctuality and discipline are very important for achieving the goals we all desire. I expect students to be well behaved at my lessons. If the student is a child, I believe it is parents responsibility to prepare a child accordingly. Of course all children are different, age and child's personality are very significant factors and I that's why use individual approach to every child. But I expect parents to make sure that practising at the instrument is taken on regular basis and the homework is done for the upcoming lesson. Failing this means that tuition might bring very limited results.

There is another very strict requirement to a potential student. It is very hard to play piano without a piano :-). If you haven’t got a full sized (88 keys) piano at home it will be very difficult to learn. Unfortunately small keyboards are not very useful, even expensive ones, perhaps only at the very first few steps. So if you decide to take piano lessons you will need a full sized instrument. I can potentially advise you how to choose a piano which will suit your needs and satisfy your budget. There is a wide variety of options available from various music stores both on high street and online. You must be prepared to choose one for yourself or your child. You might be, for example, not sure whether the piano is the right subject for you or your child to learn at all - you can then rent-to-buy a piano: pay rent for a few months and after that you can either pay the balance off or simply return the piano. Another option is to take finance - there are 0% rates available in most music stores. Or even buying a used instrument might be an option. Whatever you chose, I will require a student to have a full size instrument at home.

I normally teach in English but I also can teach in my native Ukrainian, or combine them if it needed for the best results.

I teach from home in Millbrook Park but in some cases might be able to offer home tuition**. You will find my exact location under the 'Location' tab.

If you interested please contact me for arranging the first assessment lesson. You will find my contact details under the Contact tab in the above menu. It is best to text/WhatsApp, email or fill in the contact form as I am rarely able to answer the phone.

* Assessment lesson charged at the same price as normal lesson. There is no commitment to continue. For full details please see the Pricing tab.

** Home tuition is subject to geographic proximity being within 5-10 min walk and my availability for the desired time slot. Additional charge might apply. Please contact me for more details.

During COVID 19 lockdown I started providing lessons online. They are not ideal and I definitely prefer face to face classes but I have students which I never met in person.

I am not very technical but I tried  a few different platforms and found the quality being best with Apple FaceTime. The preference is for a student to have an iPad (just because of the screen size) or iPhone, although if not available could work with WhatsApp or Zoom on the smartphone or computer.
